7 Million Settlement To Women Injured By Door At Target

October 6, 2009

On June 21, 2007, an elderly women attempted to enter a Target store located in Rosemont, Illinois when a malfunctioning swinging door knocked her to the ground. The door then swung again and struck her in the head. According to her attorney, Claire Putnam suffered permanent brain damage from this incident and, consequently, has difficulty speaking and processing thoughts.

Before being struck by the door, Ms. Putnam lived independently with her daughter, who reportedly has special needs. Because of the incident, the daughter was forced to move into a nursing home. With the proceeds from the settlement, the daughter will now be able to move back into the family home and receive at home medical assistance. A Cook County Judge signed off the on the premises liability settlement from both Target and BesamUSA, the manufacturer of the door.

Jason handled a very challenging auto accident case for me. My injuries were all based on preexisting conditions that were made worse by the accident. He did an amazing job proving up my case, which included destroying the defense expert at deposition. In the end, I received an excellent settlement on a tough case. Jason is a very smart, talented, and diligent lawyer who I would highly recommend to anyone. Phil S.
